5 Ways to Save Money on Your Flowers Without Being Cheap

Updated: Oct 29

Are you trying to find different ways to save money on flowers? If you've done your research I'm sure you have found that flowers can be costly and that cost can add up very quickly. I'm here to tell you not to get discouraged. There are plenty of ways to save on flowers without making your event look tacky or distasteful. Here are 5 ways to save on your flowers!

1. Use Seasonal Blooms

You may have a certain type of flower in mind for your centerpieces or bouquet, but did you know that your favorite flower can cost you more at a certain time of the year? The increased cost is due to decreased availability. Since flowers are seasonal, meaning they tend to bloom during a certain season, you can see how it may be beneficial for your pocket to choose flowers in season. Now, some flowers are in season all year round but not necessarily in the same region so that would also be something to think about. Paying more for something during a certain time of year, when you could get it during another time of year for less just isn’t very budget savvy.

2. Do a Mix of Tall and Short Centerpieces

You may be debating the height of your centerpieces. Should you do short or should you do tall? But have you thought about mixing the two? Many couples choose to have taller centerpieces on some tables and shorter centerpieces on others. You can choose to do this for many reasons but it is actually a great way to save money on flowers! In doing this, it will allow you to use items that may not require any florals or you can also create smaller arrangements and therefore cut down on some of the floral costs.

3. Skip the Boutonnieres

This is one that you may think won't cost too much but it can quickly add up. The average boutonniere costs approximately $18 so if you are paying for your groomsmen's bouts you may see that number go up pretty quickly.

Tip: Use stylish pocket squares instead. They will make a fashionable statement and also be way nicer to your bank account.

4. Consider Lanterns or Candles for Some Tables

You can easily do this two ways. You can either make a smaller centerpiece arrangement (less flowers) and incorporate some taper candles and votives to the table or you can use lanterns or candles as your main decor statement on your tables and include two or three flowers in bud vases.

5. Choose Cost Effective Filler Flowers

You can easily do this two ways. You can either make a smaller centerpiece arrangement (less flowers) and incorporate some taper candles and votives to the table or you can use lanterns or candles as your main decor statement on your tables and include two or three flowers in bud vases.

Many couples don't know this but there are many cost effective filler flowers such as hydrangeas that will take your arrangements to the next level without breaking the bank. Filler flowers are exactly that, flowers that will fill up space in an arrangement. They are typically way less expensive than other flowers. Be honest with your florist about your budget and I can assure you that they will do their best to ensure you get exactly what you want while staying within your budget.
