What's A First Look?

So you may have gotten recently engaged and may be doing your research on what a first look is in a wedding.. Well you've come to the right place because in this week's blog we're talking all things first look. Keep reading to find out what it is and even get some inspo for your first look if you decide to have one.

The first look is when a couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day. This intimate moment typically makes for an emotional photo opportunity. Some brides will take it even a step further and do a first look with their dad or brother. You can decide to do this with anyone you want even your girls.

There are definitely some pros and cons to a first look so I want to lay everything out here for you so you can make an informed decision.

There's Pros...

  • You can get many of the photos taken before the ceremony: By doing a first look it allows you, your partner and your bridal party to get a lot of pictures done prior to you ceremony which means you have more time to enjoy your cocktail hour.

  • It gives you and your partner a few moments together: After a hectic morning it is the perfect time to have a few moments to yourselves to take in the day and see each other right before you say "I Do"

  • You can capture an emotional moment on camera: A first look can be very emotional and it makes for great pictures as your photographer can capture an intimate moment between you and your soon to be husband.

But there's also Cons...

  • You'll have to get ready earlier: If you’re having a ceremony earlier in the day, a first look will mean you have to be ready even earlier than you’d planned—which means you have to start getting ready earlier, too.

  • Lighting may not be ideal: Yes, your photographer and videographer will try to be discrete and as far away as possible, but they will still be around. Lighting during a first look isn’t ideal. They usually happen during the day, when lighting is harsh, so you’ll probably need to take more photos after the ceremony anyway.

I hope this insight into a first look will help you make a decision on whether you want to do one or not! I have seen couples do a first look and other couples wait until the ceremony. Regardless of what you choose your wedding day will be magical and a day you will never forget!
